Beautifully detailed and coloured lithograph of the Common Cow-wheat (Melampyrum pratense).

Common Cow-wheat is a plant species in the family Orobanchaceae. The seed of the plant has an elaiosome, which is attractive to wood ants. The ants disperse the seeds of the plant when they take them back to their nests to feed their young. M. pratense is a food plant of the caterpillars of the heath fritillary butterfly. M. pratense herb has been used in the traditional Austrian medicine internally as tea or externally as pillow filling for treatment of rheumatism and blood vessels calcification.

The size of the print: 7,3" x 5,1" (18,6 x 13 cm)
Printed in 1884, Germany, for "Flora von Deutschland" by D. von Schlechtendal.

The print is in good condition, the paper shows its age with creamy patina, perfect for framing. Please note, that by antique prints due to their age some imperfections are to be expected.
