I am absolutely in love with natural dyes. They give amazing ranges of color, are very eco-friendly, and are infinitely variable. I wildcraft many of them, grow some, and purchase others. My new line of "Singlularities" yarns are really simple, yet utterly gorgeous. I basically am going back to basics - using excellent, locally produced fibers, and spinning them single ply, and then dyeing them with natural dyes. The range of textures and colors is incredible, and spinning the yarns single ply really enhances the inherent simple beauty of the natural affinity for fibers and plant dyes.

Supporting local farms is very important to me. I ONLY source fibers from local fiber farms raising sustainable, happy, healthy fiber animals. Whenever possible I try to know the name of every fiber-producing animal who contributes to my yarns! It is a delight and a joy to work with local fiber producers raising wonderful animals.

I can often get a huge range of colors from one dyepot, simply by dyeing a variety of fibers in it, and also by using the same dye material over and over to completely "exhaust" the dye - this gives a range of colors from dark and saturated, to the palest of pale, with everything in between.

I compost the dye material when it is completely spent, and use as little heat as possible in my dyeing, often employing overnight (or longer) cold soaking techniques to enhance the range of colors and colorfastness of the dyes. I do NOT use any harsh cleansers, or toxic natural mordants. (Chrome and tin, for example, are completely natural mordants, yet can be very toxic in their concentrated forms). My yarns are washed by hand with handmade castile soap.

The "singularities" yarns are designed to all work together harmoniously - perfect for enjoying the "small batch" wondrousness of handspun BUT allowing you the luxury of using handspun for larger projects such as afghans, sweaters, etc. They are not all idenentical weight or color, but they do all work well together.

Often these yarns are completely one of a kind, but occasionally I might have doubles, or may be able to custom-spin larger amounts if you need. Please convo me if you have any questions or requests.

These yarns are spun in my home; I do my absolute best to keep my felines (and my housebunny Benedict, who ironically likes chewing on yarns) out of the fiber, but please do be aware that these yarns are created in an pet-friendly home. After they are spun, tagged, photographed and listed on etsy, they "live" in my herb shop until they are sold, so they DO smell pleasantly of herbs - most people find this pleasant but if you think this might be objectionable, you have been warned :) .

Singularity #47 is a sturdy mixed-wool yarn from Stamps Family Farm in Iowa - it contains wool from several of their sheep, primarily Icelandic wool. Icelandic is not the softest wool, but it is fantastically multi-purpose - and my favorite part about Icelandic wool is that it felts like crazy. It is amazing for felted, bags, mittens, slippers, bowls, etc - it felts easily, quickly and is VERY long-lasting. Also makes great sturdy outerwear garments. I use it very often! (Photos show other skeins from the Singularities line of yarns.). Single ply, 84 yards, bulky weight thick and thin. 5.1 oz.

$6 ships one skein of yarn or 100 (in the US)., $9 internationally. I ship domestically using USPS priority mail, and 1st class USPS mail for all international orders.

Bottle of wine and spinning wheel not included in this listing purchase; however if you purchase this yarn from me I promise to drink more wine and spin more fiber !!!
