ORIGINAL late Victorian era hand held feather fan. Cream colored silk on the front side, what appears to be light cream colored linen on the back, with the tips set with white feathers. Sticks are probably bone. Sticks measure 10 3/4" long. Fan is in very good vintage condition - a few small spots on the backside of the fan where the linen has small tears where it meets the sticks, but overall, it is is good condition.

Fans became ultra-fashionable during the 1870s and 1880s, and many were trimmed with a light feather edging of marabout or formed entirely of natural or dyed feathers of different varieties, including cock, pheasant and pigeon feathers. This fan dates from that period.
