A rare and compelling designer desk or table clock made of slate and walnut in the 1960s by Harpswell House, attributed to designer Paul Evans.

Constructed of rich, dark "300 million year old slate" and beautiful walnut wood.

Dimensions: Overall width is 8.5 inches (widest portion is the wooden base); Overall Height is 7.75 inches from tabletop to the top of the slate clock face. The base dimensions are 8.5 x 3 x 1 inches, the slate dimensions are 7.75 x 5.75 inches.

The clock face is on a piece of slate a quarter inch thick. The base and the case around the movement are made from walnut wood. A sliding slate panel reveals the movement when it's time to change the battery. The original instructions are adhered to the inside of the slate panel.

The clock was originally designed for a "C" cell, battery-powered movement. Someone left an old battery in too long, and it leaked a bit. So it's been replaced with a brand-new quartz movement powered by a single "AA" battery that powers vintage style brass-tone hands.

The clock runs quietly and keeps perfect time. Its horizontal form from the mid 20th century seems to predate its era -- just place it next to a flatscreen TV or monitor and compare.
