Red Poppy

This annual is sometimes referred to as "Shirley Poppy", "Flanders Poppy," "American Legion Poppy", or "Corn Poppy." It’s bright, happy color adds sparkle to any space. It is hardy, drought-tolerant, and very easy to grow.

These are seeds that I collected during the 2014 growing from my organic Touch of Heaven Gardens. You will receive hundreds of tiny seeds to brighten your garden area. Use as an accent, or naturalize in a field. These beauties self-seed and will bring joy for years to come.

Bloom Time: Summer
Primary Flower Color: Red
Light Requirements: Full sun to partial shade
Estimated Mature Height: 12-30 inches tall
Soil Moisture: Average, Well Draining
Will Tolerate: Sandy Soil, Loamy Soil

Red poppy seeds germinate best in cool weather, so plant in early spring. Thin poppy seedlings once they germinate in approximately two weeks, to one plant every 10 inches. This allows for proper air circulation and cuts down on disease. Water transplants and seeds after planting. Keep the soil moist, but not wet by watering regularly.

Remove dead blooms by pinching the stem below the flower between your thumb and forefinger. If you do not deadhead, your poppies will spread rapidly and might overtake your garden. If left to re-seed, these beauties will bring joy for years to come.

Be sure to check out my other poppy varieties.
