This is an image I scanned from one of my postcards. It celebrates St. Patrick's Day - the "luck of the Irish" in the form of the lucky pig. According to Celtic legend a man named Manannan had a herd of regenerating pigs, and his herd never diminished. Supposedly an Irish icon of a pig isn't considered lucky unless it's missing something...an ear, etc.! (I colored the pig a little too pink, so I can't tell if anything is missing) Or another story is that the proverbial "pig in clover" signifies financial prosperity and well-being...this coming from the fact that pigs prosper wherever they live, whether a pasture or a pig sty!!!

More than you ever wanted to know, but the stories are enchanting...
