This is a beautiful and rare wax over composition doll dating from I believe the mid 1800's. She has a heavily waxed over composition head and breast plate , brown glass eyes and composition arms and legs with painted shoes. Her wig is human hair and rooted into her head, it is fashioned in an upsweep do which looks lovely under her bonnet. The silk dress and felt bonnet are in a Jane Austin style but I do not believe she is that old. I believe she dates from between 1850 and 1880.
Condition is subjective but this doll is used and over 130 years old. Although old and wear is evident the dress and bonnet have survived the ages. The silk dress has many tears and repairs and my be original to this doll. I have not removed the dress due to its fragile nature. The body which is stuffed cotton seems to be well intact and she wears a lovely set of cotton eyelet under dress and pantaloons. There are blue boots painted on her tiny feet. The bonnet is in nice condition and is made of felt with lace , feather plume and cloth flowers. In my opinion her head, body and limbs are in nice antique condition.
