Description

All these prints from this 1960 lot of bookplates are now on sale in SeaSeaRider. I have single, pairs and double prints, as this one is, and some trios. The backgrounds on many of these is a work of art in and of itself. Check them out for a pair or grouping but they are large enough to stand alone as art if you choose!
This is one of my fav rescues from a vintage book from the 60s. This is a double page measuring 21" by 10 5/8". It is nice heavier weight matte finish paper and features a glossy white Indo-pacific shell Ovula Ovum with a dark interior. (Shell is glossy in real life but the finish on this paper is matte.) The reflective nature of the shell is portrayed thru wonderful shadings! This shell was often used by natives as an amulet or charm.Wonderful condition to be 45+ years old.
Background is charcoal with some variations in it depicting the shells glossy surface reflecting on the page. This is a double print and can easily be divided at the natural page fold to make a pairing.
This could be framed to hand verically or horizontally. One edge has a rough edge where it was attached to a book. On the middle of one long side the edge has a page number in white. Both could be covered easily with a mat or frame. The last photo is not included in this listing but is an example of a beautiful huge triton double print I have listed from this same lot.
. If you left the page number showing, that would not deter either as many cabinet of curiosities type prints often have page numbers and writing on them. There is another shell photograph on the back of cowries and it is color and attached to the page. If you want to try to remove it, you would have another print to frame. You can see more of these color bookplates in my shop. Convo if you want a photo of the one on the back of this listing.
Check out my shop SeaSeaRider for many vintage shell prints, quite a few black and white and some color. Some of the color ones I have are hand-tipped, meaning they are attached to the page. My photography doesn't do justice to these. The backgrounds on the colored as well as the blk white are often filled with shading , bubbles that look like tiny water droplets, or reflections of the shells. Exquisite photography!

Shipping is for Mainland U.S. Convo with ZIP for Alaska or Hawaii. I also ship to other countries so CONVO me!
