I love this unusual locket (English Victorian c 1890s) with its many interesting details. In addition to the pressed design of the heraldic lion rampant (lion standing upright with forepaws and one raised leg) on both sides, both sides also feature bright cut details and hand engraving between the lion and the border. On one side, the lion is set within a geometric border, on the other, what looks to be a border of drawn sashes. On both sides, the lion wears a royal crown, whiskers, long flowing tresses, and an expression which might be curious, or maybe befuddled. On the inside of the locket is a grey almost waxy finish. I have seen this in a number of locket but am not sure what this attributes to. Unfortunately, the locket refuses to stay shut—evidently needing some sort of fix, and so, is priced accordingly. Otherwise, in very good condition. It hangs from an old brass chain, also in good condition.

The locket meaures about 1-1/8” long by about 3/16” thick – Chain measures about 17” thick.
