This pendent is an homage to macrophages, the amoeboid cells that roam our tissues engulfing bacteria and the debris of dead cells by phagocytosis. These little guys are an important part of your body's defense against illness and infection.

I was asked to come up with a charm to symbolize a love of immunology, and this is what popped into my head. A tiny macrophage... instead of engulfing bacteria this little guy is engulfing a tiny heart... the heart of dedicated immunologist who spends countless hours studying, staining and staring at samples through a microscope.

Each macrophage is sculpted from fine silver and comes strung on 18 inches of sterling silver chain.

Since each is handmade to order each will vary slightly but look just as good as the one pictured.

Embryos! Plasmids! Bacteria! Oh my :)! Be sure too check out the science section for more!
