If the Jetsons had a desk clock, this might have been it.

From the late 1960s - early 1970s, a super-sleek Rhythm brand wind-up desk or table clock of stunning space-age design, made with technological perfection in Japan. The movement was manufactured with 2 jewels to prolong the clock's working life and accuracy. What a good idea -- it still keeps accurate time today!

This hip, Saarinen-inspired tulip-base pedestal alarm clock stands about 7.5 inches tall. Its round reflective red face is about 4 3/8 inches wide in diameter. The hour markers in silver, like punctuating rivet heads, stand proud of the dial, which sports luminescent hands. The cylindrical resin head measures 3 inches deep. The circular foot measures 3 5 inches in diameter, and is covered on the underside with cream colored felted board. Glows-in-the-dark luminous hour and minute hand, with a silver-tone second hand. The underside of the tulip base is lined with soft flocked paper to protect desk or table surfaces.

The dial is marked "Rhythm" and "Alarm 2 Jewels" and "Japan." The model number (51111) is indicated in raised numbers on the back of the clock head, where there are devices to set the alarm, move the hands, and adjust the movement to run a bit faster or slower (this device is reset in a "c" shaped slot so it isn't bumped accidentally.)

Keeps excellent time, with a soft, pleasant tick.

In nice vintage condition overall with some very minor wear. There is some oxidation to the pedestal base (see photo closeup) that you can feel with your fingertip, though the surface is stable. When I acquired the clock I worked with the +/- adjusting device to make sure the clock can keep accurate time. It does. The clock may need re-adjusting after shipping. I can tell you how to do this if you don't already know.

The clock itself works just fine, and if you didn't want to use it for an alarm, you would not need to.

Sculptural and elegant. George Jetson would approve.
