Sublimation is a process used to dye polyester fibers or substrates coated with special sublimation coating such as mugs, coasters, etc. Special sublimation ink is printed on transfer paper, and when applied to a substrate with heat, the ink becomes a gas and dyes the substrate with permanent ink. Sublimation is different from vinyl and screen printing and not to be confused with each other.

Sublimation is intended for polyester fabrics of 50% or higher poly content; the higher the poly count the brighter an image will be.

Sublimation requires the use of light colored fabrics as the ink dyes to the fabric (vs a layer on TOP of the fabric linked vinyl and screen printing).

Heat presses (not irons) must be used.

Yes! Sublimation requires the use of a heat press. Irons or Easy Presses, etc will not work with sublimation transfers.

Please refer to the temperature and time settings recommended for the substrate you are using. Most vary between 350-400 degrees
 
-Transfers must be used on items intended for sublimation i.e. specially coated mugs, ceramics or polyester fabric
 
100% polyester fabric will give best, brightest results. The less polyester (50% is minimum) the more 'vintage' the print will look

Light colors such as white or light gray is recommended. Sublimation ink will not show up on dark colors

There is no white ink in sublimation, any white areas shown in designs will be the color of the surface pressed on

Sublimation prints REQUIRE a heat press. Irons, Easy Press, etc MAY NOT be used

We recommend the “tear” method of      trimming before pressing

-These are printed on a Laser Printer, no further sealing is needed before use.
 
-You will need to trim edges of decal as desired before use.
 
-Please read instructions throughout, we are not responsible for incorrect usage.
 
-Waterslide decals are very fragile, and allowing the decal to wrinkle/fold/touch  itself could damage the decal.
 
-If you are new to using waterslides, please know there is a small learning curve to proper application and practice is key. Your first few projects may not turn out perfect. YouTube is a great source of videos to learn more.
 
-Projects using waterslides are recommended to hand wash only.

Suggested Use:
1. Prepare your work area and project before soaking decal. Have all supplies handy and ready to go.
 
2. Trim decal as desired. Leaving excess can make decal more noticeable.
 
3. Place decal in small bowl of water. Decal may curl, we recommend holding ends flat with fingertips while soaking.
 
4. We suggest soaking for 15-20 seconds. Over-soaking (for too long) can cause it to become too flimsy and harder to apply smoothly. We like to apply as soon as movement begins to happen.
 
5. Apply carefully slide off onto surface. GENTLY smooth out any wrinkles. Do Not Rub Roughly. We like to pay dry with soft hand towel or sponge to remove excess water.
 
6. Allow to dry before completing next steps of your project.

-Trim non-image areas to 1/4" prior to press.
-Lint roll fabric prior to pressing.
-Lay shirt/fabric on heat press. Recommend first pressing shirt for 5-10 seconds to remove any wrinkles. 
-Lay transfer on desired location. Recommend covering with butcher paper or Teflon sheet over top.
-Press for 375 degrees for 30-40 seconds with moderate pressure. Make sure your press is calibrated accurately for temperature.  Time/temp may vary depending on how your press operates.
-Immediately after remove from press and peel transfer paper off (hot peel) in one quick motion. 
-Gently stretch fabric both top to bottom and left to right. 
-Wait 24 hrs to wash.

Tips and Tricks for ChromaBlast

Transfer paper not releasing easily– more time possibly needed.
Ink not imprinted evenly -possible cold spots or not enough pressure.
Transfer media tinted yellow– possibly too hot or too much time.

The ChromaBlast system involves a special eco-friendly ink + paper combination that chemically bonds with cotton. The print durability far exceeds any other digital transfer paper method for use on cotton fabric. Chemical bonding between the ink and the coating on the media occurs when heat is applied. The overprint area from the media does physically transfer to fabric, but washes away in several washings because it has no ink to react to in the non-image area. We recommend trimming your print to 1/4" as prior to pressing to reduce over print areas.

The final result will be a bright a vibrant, colorful image on the t-shirt that looks, feels and breathes like no other method. No heavy bulky vinyl that wrinkles and cracks with ChromaBlast.

Hand Iron application method ChromaBlast (only)

1. Preheat iron to linen or highest heat setting with NO steam.
2. Trim non-image areas to 1/4" prior to press.
3. Make sure fabric is free of wrinkles.
4. Lint roll fabric prior to pressing.
5. Place on a HARD, smooth surface- do not use an ironing board, pad, towel etc...
6. Cover with either teflon or white butcher paper to protect iron from inadvertent ink pickup.
7. Using 2 hands and heavy pressure, slide the iron back and forth up and down for 90 seconds; repeat moving iron right to left for 90 seconds.
8. While still hot and with even motion, remove transfer paper (hot peel).
9. While still warm, gently stretch the image area right to left and top to bottom.
10. Wait 24 hrs to wash.

We test our (most) blanks with success at 385 degrees for 70 seconds.

There are several blanks that need different settings.
- Tumblers we print at 350 degrees for 6 minutes in convection oven.
- Stainless can coolers 385 for 40 seconds in mug press.

These are just suggestions, as each press operates differently.

Blanks may be hot after pressing so because to follow proper safety measures when working with sublimation.
