I found this beautiful necklace of antique cloisonne beads at an estate sale in Carmel-by-the-Sea, a little artist's village located along the central coast of California.

Carmel's fairytale houses look as if they are made of gingerbread, with curved wooden roofs and picturesque gardens, all swept over by the cool moist breezes of the Pacific Ocean.

I imagine that this piece belonged to one of the incrdible artists who left San Francisco in the 1940's to start the little artist's colony that is now Carmel. Was she a bohemian painter? Or a gifted poet?

This gorgeous necklace feautures 60 antique cloisonne beads, individually hand-knotted along 28" of silk cord. The beads are graded in three sizes from a large bead in the center (about 3/4"), to medium ones (1/2") along the sides and the smallest ones at the ends (1/4").

Each handmade bead is gorgeous and unique - with colorful glass enamel fired in a hot kiln onto a lustrous gold bead. The colors are vivid, though feminine, like Springtime herself.

A lovely antique metal clasp finishes the piece. It is easy to take on and off and is still strong and sturdy.

The only "flaw" is a hint of perfume from its previous owner.
