The Paper Nautilus seashell is delightfully mis-named because it is not a nautilus nor is it a true seashell. It is the temporary home of the Argonaut family of octopus. The female Argonaut lives in the shell, protecting the eggs from predators until they hatch.
Argonauts are found worldwide in tropical and semi-tropical waters but they are quite rare. There are many different types of Argonauts and their egg shells have slightly different looks. The shells are very delicate, hence the name. The image is enlarged to show details.
The listing is for one shell.
