Absolutely stunning Marilyn Monroe silhouette gold and yellow brocade day dress and jacket--a Dior style Jackie era suit perfect for spring/summer.

This amazing ensemble came from a very elegant estate sale and many of the dresses from there will be featured here in my shop soon. The previous owner's bust was 34B and all of her dresses were darted and shaped for a bullet style bra cup (I mention this because I have stuffed the dress on my mannequin to demonstrate the bust darts). The darts give the dress an extra 2" so I'm thinking that the bust accommodation might actually be a 36). It is a busty silhouette with a 24" high waist. I think this is a great look for a spring or summer wedding--a chipper color and glittering fabrication that is elegant and uptown.

The fabric is a butter yellow gold brocade with a Hounds tooth style plaid pattern, and both pieces are fully lined. The dress zips up the back with a metal zipper. The dress neckline is plunging and sexy, and the Nehru style jacket adds a lady like grace note with 5 antique brass buttons in an asymmetrical pattern down the front. The dress has pockets and zips up the back. There are no designer labels or size labels. I have listed the exact measurements below. Check yours against mine for a proper fit. Based on the measurements I am going to call this a size 4--the waist will define whether you fit this dress. Ther eis a 1-1/2" seam allowance on most seams.

34" bust (36" with darts)
24" high waist
32" high hip
37" hips (max)
36-1/2" overall length
8" from bottom of arm hole to waist seams
16-1/2" across back (at bust, seam to seam)
21" waist seams to skirt hemline
* hemline is taken up 3"

36" bust
32-1/2 waist
15" shoulder
19-1/2" back of neck to hemline rear
21-1/4 outer sleeve length
15-1/2" sleeve inseam

condition: good to excellent vintage condition. Minor wear with some makeup marks on the jacket collar and some very faint sweat stains under the arms of the dress, though not visible from the outside of the dress. It looks to have been worn once or only a few times and then stored away for many years. I would call this wear-now, but a dry cleaning would make it perfect.

Convo me with any questions, and thanks for shopping with me. I have much more fashion and accessories. See the rest of my shop here:

About me: I am a NY based prop stylist for magazines like Real Simple, Instyle, Seventeen, and others, and a well versed shopper for props (that oftentimes end up here on Etsy). On the whole I’m an easy to approach seller, and if you love something but can’t afford it and wish I would discount it for you I probably will. That said, I majorly frown on low-ball offers for items that are clearly well-priced, so don’t go there. My pricing is, I find, super cheap in comparison to like items in other shops or on Ebay. I'm just looking to clear out the bins and bins of great stuff I have accumulated over the years. When I shop I do so carefully, and select items of a certain quality and design dignity, and take great care in how each item compliments other items in my shop. I only list things I feel are of a high quality, or if a dress, for instance, is damaged, it's there for sale because I know there is someone out there who even with blemishes or repair needs wants that dress. I've found Etsy to be the perfect place for me to sell that sort of thing. So, the message is: there’s no junk here. I dutifully detail all measurements, blemishes, and details I feel are necessary in the listing, and welcome additional info about a designer or item from shoppers. In my travels I come across amazing vintage clothing in the spirit of Betty Draper and Joan Holloway from Mad Men--great silhouettes and styles that are hand made, dressmaker patterned, or tailor made by home makers in the 50s and 60s. When I come across major designer labels like Chanel or Dior I scoop them up, and again with damaged clothing of a certain quality I know there is someone out there with a mending kit and some moxie that wants them. That said, most of what I like to sell is in clean and ready to go condition.

Shipping: I can ship worldwide (though not everywhere) so convo me for inquiries about countries not listed. As a rule I try to ship Priority Mail when possible to insure that shipments arrive safely and have some sort of trafficking number. I can ship any way you like, though. For international shipments I can send via USPS International First Class depending on the weight of the package, and that is usually a less expensive route. When I am in town I generally ship same day as purchase or within 2 or 3 days. If I am out of town for extended periods of time I put my shop on hold, so if it’s up online I’m probably in town.
