Artist: Santana
Title: Santana III
Label: Columbia KC 30595
Year Released: 1971

Track Listing:
Side 1:
No One To Depend On
Toussaint L'Overture

Side 2:
Everybody's Everything
Jungle Strut
Everything's Coming Our Way
Para Los Rumberos

Description: Featuring a clutch of notable, yet lesser well-known tracks (“No One To Depend On”, “Everybody’s Everything”), this is my personal favorite of the Santana catalog. Why? Because Santana III successfully pushes complex musical boundaries (jazz great Gene Ammons’ “Jungle Strut”) while simultaneously paying homage to traditional Latin music traditions (Tito Puente’s “Para Los Rumberos”). The final offering from the Woodstock-era ensemble assimilates these genres to great effect on more conventional tracks (the beautiful “Everything Is Coming Our Way”) and extensive, celebratory jams (“Toussaint L’Overture”). Viva Santana!

Condition: I grade very conservatively according to Goldmine Record Grading 101 Guidelines (http://www.goldminemag.com/tag/goldmine-price-guides)

Vinyl: VG+ (8/10); some popping on the opening track from poor handling that quickly subsides, otherwise a very powerful, clean sounding LP.
Cover: VG (7/10); substantial ring/shelf wear (see pictures), but no seam splitting or other major defects; LP comes in original generic white paper sleeve insert.
