Historians credit the Paracas, a pre-Incan society, for introducing ponchos the world (or, at least, the Americas) more than 2,500 years ago. It was their solution for staying warm in chilly high-altitude environments, and there’s a reason why the basic design hasn’t changed to this day: It works. Drape it over your shoulders to stave off the cold on brisk evenings, or throw it over a chair to add texture to your favorite room. Either way, it might just be the only piece of outerwear you own that doubles as a home accent.
