Japanese Wave Origami Pattern Bowl in Rust Brown

6" Diameter 1.75" Tall

This bowl is hand-thrown on the wheel, painted with a rust-brown underglaze, then fired and glazed again with a clear coat. I've then applied a custom ceramic decal of a traditional wave pattern, inspired by origami paper. The piece undergoes a third firing to fuse the decal to the bowl.

It's a bit of a departure from my usual themes of math and science, but I love the intricacy of origami paper designs. I learned how to make paper cranes when my sister was folding 1,000 cranes as a present for her boyfriend before he went to Japan for a year.

The decal is fused to the piece and is permanent.
I recommend that you wash this piece by hand.
Signed on the base.
