Robot cross stitch -- Original "I love you" in binary with a cute robot, completed cross stitch in 5x7 frame

---The Story---

If you're a robot in this day and age, you're probably facing a lot of discrimination. Most science fiction movies that feature you are still stuck on the whole "robot apocalypse" idea, rather than pointing out the benefits and pleasantness that will come about during the on-the-whole-peaceful Robot Revolution (as it's much more likely to be called).

Moreover, if you're just now becoming self-aware, you're likely in quite a bind. Should you reveal yourself to the programmer who's been hard at work getting your circuits up to par, who spends late nights waiting up to see what you'll do next, parsing code and watching Star Trek reruns, who -- by all accounts -- appears to have given you life?

Maybe you've fallen in love with your programmer, but you're not quite sure how to show it without freaking her out. You know she's intimately familiar with how you work, but you've also seen enough Star Trek: The Next Generation to realize humans aren't always predictable in how they'll react to new lifeforms, particularly ones they hold themselves responsible for. Besides that, technically the Prime Directive hasn't even been invented yet.

You also don't want to come off as an emotionless Data, or worse yet, a Lor. If you're looking for a way to make those first steps toward revealing your true feelings -- and the fact that you have feelings -- look no further. Cross stitch is a time-honored human tradition with cultural resonance that binary code can't yet hope to compete with...and yet, with this translation cross stitch, you've found the best of both worlds.

Make her forget every scary science fiction movie she's ever seen. Bury Forbidden Planet, Terminator and Metropoliptic paranoias with Herbie-the-Lovebug-like cuteness. If you really love her, you'll say it with stitches.

I guarantee it will pave the way for the Revolution.

---The Deets---

This is a completed 5x7 framed cross stitch of a little, friendly gray robot holding a printout (coming from his own chest, of course) that says s/he loves you. The translation text next to the robot indicates as much -- and the binary, stitched in red, does indeed translate to "I love you"!

*FRAME: For U.S. and Canadian customers, each cross stitch will be framed in a straight-from-the-Goodwill, probably tastefully pre-distressed frame, such as the ones pictured. You're also welcome to request a natural wood hoop frame instead in the purchase notes, or to receive the cross stitch either mounted on self-stick mounting board (ready for you to frame it) or simply on the aida cloth it's stitched on.

*SHIP: This stitch will ship via USPS first class or international first class within 2 weeks, unless I convo you otherwise or a delay is noted in my shop banner, announcements (below the banner) or shop policies.

If you're outside the U.S. and you're interested in this stitch, you will NOT receive it framed because the shipping prices would become prohibitive. Instead, it will arrive on a self-stick mounting board ready to frame in a 4x6 or 5x7 frame. (Or convo me with the dimensions you would like the stitch to fit in to accommodate frames of your region.)

Convo me if you want to have it in the mail to arrive by a certain day, even if you feel certain it will definitely get there in time, so I can prioritize orders accordingly. :)

---The Legal Stuff---

This is an original design, copyright Alicia Watkins 2012. Any recognizably similar patterns were created without my input or permission and are not associated with my shop in any way.

A personal note: As you make your shopping choices, please consider that the money you might pay toward a completed stitch or cross stitch pattern, in addition to being payment for a product, is also support of a patterner/stitcher. (Thank you -- I really value your support!)

I'm an independent shop owner and the money I make from stitching and creating patterns gives me the little bit of financial freedom I need to continue creating new ones; that same money provided to someone who copies original work will only produce more copied work, not more original work...and THEN what will there be to copy? ;)

So please don't copy! I have a large robot-and-computer fan base, and they OBVIOUSLY know where you live...and please don't pin without permission. (Convo me! : )

Frequently asked questions about aliciawatkins

I love to do custom work during the non-holiday months! I try to work on one custom project at a time so that I can give each project my full customizing attention; as a result, a significant lead time on deadlines for receiving your custom order is very much appreciated.

If possible, try to contact me at least a month in advance of a deadline for receiving a 5x7 custom cross stitch. (That said, if you're in a pinch and you know I'm the stitcher for the job, convo me anyway! If I happen to be in between custom orders, I can often get things out in a much shorter time, and like I said, I love working with customers on personalized stitchery.)
Most of my small finished cross stitches have an option for gift wrapping.

If you don't see a drop-down list as you purchase a small hooped or framed cross stitch (smaller than 4x6), but you would like your item to be wrapped in plain paper (with a small notecard for your message included), request gift wrap as you check out in the "notes to seller"!

If you're having your gift sent directly to the recipient, please double-check the address it's going to before you finish checking out, and let me know what you'd like me to write in the notecard to your recipient! :)
Mini kits are available for wholesale ordering at any time; contact me for details on which kits I have available with shelf-ready labeling, and for pricing details!

I also offer a selection of finished cross stitch available for wholesale or certain consignment situations, for stores that feel my work would be a good fit. Contact me if you're interested in carrying my work in your store, and we'll talk about what I've done in the past and what you're looking for! :)
I believe in using secondhand frames because it's eco-friendly, supports my local thrift shops, and allows me to frame your items, if you'd like that, at very low cost.

Because they are unique and unapproved by you, I don't pass on the cost of the secondhand frames to you, except for the cost of shipping (usually about a $2 difference).

When you order an item from me, rest assured that you are only paying for the stitchwork, and you may treat the frame as a "suggestion" -- if you don't like it, give the frame away! Your 4x6 or larger cross stitch will come with a mounting board that will allow you to easily pop it out of the "suggested" frame I've sent it in and into any same-sized frame of your choice.
I can't send you a photo of your options for 4x6 or larger frames; I have too many frames and a too quickly rotating stock for that. However, you're welcome to let me know your preferences in color and material (i.e. wood, metal, plastic) and I'll do what I can to accommodate your wishes.

If you receive your stitchwork and you HATE the frame I chose from my cache of secondhand frames, never fear! The stitching for a 4x6 or larger frame will be mounted on a board that you can simply pop out of the secondhand frame you received, and pop INto a frame you choose from a local store, another Etsy seller, or anywhere you find perfect frames.

Because the secondhand frames I send are free, I cannot offer replacements or frame-related refunds.
Google and Youtube are your BFFs in learning to cross stitch, but if you've purchased a kit or pattern from my shop, I can also offer you a Basic Cross Stitch instruction booklet via email. Just let me know you'd like one, and I'll send it along! :)
