Inspired by images of galaxies, I have made a pocket sized galaxy of glittering stars and gases, floating in the middle of a solid glass marble! I like to add as many layers as possible to keep you gazing into my space marbles, and this one has lots to keep you looking!

The marble has been made entirely by hand, using borosilicate glass ('Pyrex' is the well known trade name of this type of glass), using both laboratory grade clear glass which has excellent clarity, and high quality art glass. To produce the 'stars' I have also used 'Dichroic' glass which is made by coating glass with an ultra thin layer of metals which reflects light in an usual way. By changing the angle of viewing or direction of the light source the colour will actually change from golds to magenta!

This isn’t just a flat disc either, their a slight helix to it which adds texture and depth as you gaze into it, and it ‘floats’ above a multicoloured layer of coloured glass to act as a nebula. This is a very thin layer of greens, yellows and milky blues swirled together to make a backdrop of gaseous clouds. Deep bellow it in the bottom of the marble are more swirls of colours to act as a distant nebula which you’ll notice as you turn and move the marble around.
These are real 3D effects, not just painted on, and the front lens of the marble produces an optical illusion makes them look a lot deeper and further away than they really are.

The back of the marble I've used a glass with a very high metal content which produces some stunning metallic effects of greens and blues, which really shine in the light as you move it!

The glass has been fully annealed in a microprocessor controlled kiln, and comes with a clear acyrlic stand and gift box as well as a certificate, that I have individually signed, stating that it is a handmade one-off item, made by me. The marble is just a touch under 34mm (about 1.33 nches).

Every marble I make is always slightly different, so are always a true one of a kind piece of artisan flamework made entirely by hand by lampwork in my studio in the heart of the English countryside, and is ideal either for an avid marble collector, sci-fi fan, or just for keeping in your pocket to stare into and dream of other worlds!
