These lacy beaded earrings use a variety of glass seed beads and tiny faceted green mystic quartz, all woven together to resemble a double helix of DNA.

The coloring of the base pairs uses the sequence recognized by the enzyme CaiB31, which is found in the microorganism Chloroflexus aurantiacus. This is a photosynthetic bacterium isolated from hot springs, where it thrives in high temperatures up to 70 °C. It grows in both in the light and dark, changing colors accordingly. Unlike plants, it does not produce oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis. In fact, in the dark, it uses oxygen. Because this bacterium employs both photosynthesis and respiration, it has been used in the study of the evolution of photosynthesis. The base pair sequence shown in each earrings is a palindrome, specifically,

The beadwork is stiff yet flexible.

The ear wires were forged from sterling silver wire. These are medium-small sized earrings that are light for their size.

Earrings are are 12 mm (half inch) wide.
Length of earrings from top of ear wire is 45 mm (about 1 3/4 inches).
