Early vintage steam iron made by The Silex Co., Hartford, Conn. c.1947. Body and heating plate are made of heavy duty aluminum, I believe the handle and knobs might be Bakelite.

The iron has it's original cloth wrapped electrical swivel cord in good condition. Features include a knob with hi, med, low temperature settings and off position, switch for wet or dry ironing, steaming jet for freshening velvet and furs and water reservoir.

The originals ads for the iron said "Here it is! Wonderful new Silex Iron that's better for all your ironing" "Two irons in one! Steam or Dry!"

The ironing plate measures 9 x 5 inches and the iron stands 10 1/2 inches when upright and 6 1/2 inches in ironing position (not including the cord). It is in excellent condition, it's old and has some surface scratches that should polish up nicely, if so desired.

*** This collectible iron is in working condition. However due to it's age and lack of automatic shut off required in irons made today it is considered a fire hazard, for your safety, this for decorative purposes only. ***

Would make a lovely shabby chic home decor item for the laundry room or as an interesting industrial bookend.
