Say that three times really fast! This Oregon Myrtle is also known as California Bayberry and is an extremely dense evergreen hardwood. One of the racks that had gotten a crazy amount of attention was made of this, although I thought it was knotty Alder at the time. I told the customer(as if she cared!) and I am officially correcting myself here.
Now that that's out of the way, the flipped design I tried out on two of the racks from this round. A friend and co-designer had mentioned when I first made these that she thought the live edge would face downward, I decided to try it out.
This piece is 16" long, but only 13.5" of it are magnetic due to the trailing edge on the right. This size is small enough to be "squozen" into a USPS flat rate box for overseas shipping.
The magnets are embedded from the backside via a channel, and then I fill the remaining area with tight fitting pieces of myrtle and glue them in place. Sealed with food grade butcher block oil and mounts with two mounting screws.
