This vase is turned from a piece of Florida rosewood. It's 8" tall and 3" wide. The wall thickness is a little less than .25". The grain pattern near the top is simply stunning! As wild as it looks, the vase is as smooth as could be! The foot is hardly noticeable, but adds stability. I finished it with several coats of oil, and buffed it with carnauba wax.

Hollow Forms are wood turned pieces where the inside is removed. Part of the definition is that the opening of the vessel is small, requiring blind access to the inside with your tools. Specialized tools and techniques are required to be able to core the inside of the wood through a small hole and not damage the rim or go through the side of the vessel.

Turning hollow forms is one of the most challenging projects in woodturning - the tools are totally hidden within the spinning form!
