Bronze and Gold is a 16 color reductive linoleum print depicting a scene from Ulysses. The scene is taken from a chapter known as the "Sirens at the Ormond Hotel". This print is the fifth in as series I'm working on depicting scenes from Joyce's novel.
This linoleum print started out as a few sketches cut up and taped together to make an engaging drawing which I then turned into to a reductive linoleum print. The process of making this print has taken months of work, more joyful than grudge. I struggled immensely with the colors especially toward the end, but I’m hoping my fundamental love for James Joyce’s work comes through in the final result. If just a fraction of his obsession with words and wit and even more so his joy of music peeks through to someone, anyone, I am pleased.
