A great pair of natural Kingman, Arizona turquoise earrings that has not been stabilized or altered in any way. I am the lapidary who cut these stones in my Zuni Mountain Studio.
The earrings have teardrop shaped cabochons set in sterling silver with sterling earposts and large clutches for stability . The cabochon bottoms are 13/16" (19mm) long and 9/16" (15mm) wide with three 1 1/8" (27mm) dangles terminating with fluted shot ball ends. The bottoms are suspended from 1/4" (7mm) flutted shot ball tops. The total length from top to bottom is 2 1/8" (55mm). These earrings weigh only 6.73 grams each and have a brushed satin finish. You'll forget you have these on, except when you recieve numerous compliments.
The Mineral Park area outside of Kingman where this turquoise was mined is an old area which began early production in the 1880s when James Haas first discovered prehistoric workings on what was then know as Aztec Peak (Now know as Turquoise Mountain). In about 1900, the demand for turquoise had grown and numerious companies would begin to pull the gemstone from Ithica Peak as well as Turquoise Mountain. Although present day copper mining has radically changed the landscape, this area is still producing turquoise today.
