If you’ve been watching Downton Abbey on PBS, you probably remember the storyline involving the Downton Village Flower Show. If not, I’ll catch you up.

Isobel deems the senior Mr. Moseley's roses the most worthy of the Grantham Cup, an award typically given to Cousin Violet, the Dowager Countess (mainly because she sponsors the flower show, of course). Violet is none too pleased to hear she has competition. When the time comes for the judging, it is she who opens the envelope to announce the winner. Violet sees her own name clearly written on the page but, surprisingly, awards the trophy to Mr. Moseley. The joyous crowd surrounds the old man, and Violet is pleased with her new status as benefactor.

Gripping drama, no?

I imagine Mr. Moseley received—or should have received—a loving cup much like this one. Standing an imposing 16" to the top of the handles, this fun gold tone trophy is inscribed “SOUTHTOWN DAHLIA CLUB/1949/SWEEPSTAKE WINNER/SECTION B./E. PERNSOT.” As you can see from the photos, the trophy is in very good condition, with a few minor scratches here and there around the rim and on the back. But, in our view, that just adds to the vintage charm.

Buy it for your own Abbey—and display it on a side table in your great hall. Cousin Violet would be proud.
