"Tembleques" is the given name to the flowers that the women wearing Polleras use on their head because they are made of flexible and delicate materials that move when the person makes any movement when dancing or walking.
The first ornaments that the empolleradas used on the head were natural flowers, especially Creoles Carnations, jasmine, roses, etc., Which were grown in clay pots or metal containers in the masseters installed in the courtyards of houses.
Tembleques are made of different materials like fish scales, silk, pearls, etc. Other fine adornments like beads, bugle beads, sequins, are recent additions that have been accepted as complementary ornaments flowers arrangement for the Pollera. The "Temblequeras" or the people, who make tembleques, take advantage of any material that is close to their fingertips.
The tembleques are made in different ways. The most popular ones resemble certain flowers of the countryside as daisies, roses, malviras, Guatemalan flower, pumpkin, melon, bridal bouquet, jasmine, musk and pads. They are also made inspired by the shape of certain insects like the scorpion, butterfly, dragonfly, etc. and some birds like the dove and the peacock. It is very rare to find tembleques with other shapes. Some imitate the form of gold jewelry, such as the "pajuela" and the "Pearl rosette". In the region of Las Tablas are given the name "flirty" and "zoquetas" to certain types of tembleques, produced by the imagination and personal initiative of the temblequeras.
