Darling antique late 1800s Victorian blue enamel bird locket, no chain. Features a sweet scene with pale snowdrop flowers and a gold bird in flight surrounded by turquoise blue enamel. In the Victorian language of flowers, snowdrops represented hope or consolation and this lovely scene conveys that beautifully. The locket opens on the right with the help of two little knobs to reveal 2 empty spaces inside (no photo rings or coverings present). The inside is marked 97 on each side--the numbers were used by jewelry makers to ensure that matching pieces stayed together. The locket closes quietly and securely. The backside has a lovely etched design and the top has a small loop for hanging. The metal is most likely gold filled, but no markings to confirm. Measures 28.5mm in length (1-1/8 in) x 17mm (5/8 in) including the loop. Heavy enamel wear and scratches to the front as pictured, as well as an oh so subtle indentation near the center of the bottom. A beautiful wearable piece flaws and all! This is a one of a kind piece here at Treasure Booth :)
