The focal of this necklace comes together through several antique items. The first is a large Victorian hand carved mother of pearl filigree piece that is extraordinary. The shape and detailing of this piece reminds me of a sword's hilt, one of a warrioress...

In Marian symbology, the Virgin Mary is often depicted with a sword. This sword represents Her Sovereignty and is an emblem of Her capacity to act as Protectress. Every now and then you can still find old medals containing this symbology, although they are rare. Also, one of Mary's emblems is the Sacred Heart. This heart is encircled with a garland of roses and a sword is tucked behind the garland. This necklace is a celebration of the sword and mantle of Mary.

I affixed an old bronze Ave Maria rosary connector to the front of the mother of pearl piece to continue bringing out this theme. I then added a small cross to the rosary connector where it now becomes a shield. From here, I chose another Ave Maria rosary connector to connect the mother of pearl piece to an antique Haskell style earring. This ornate earring symbolizes a bridal bouquet, for truly Mary was a nun, a bride...completely wedded to Her inner directive. To finish the focal, I suspended two small glass pearls to either side, hung by petite tarnished chain. These signify the scales of balance that any warrioress/woman must be in touch with in order to truly wield her power.

The neck chain is comprised of old brass filigree beads, brass rose beads, lovely mother of pearl beads and two large glass baroque pearls that have been set with old filigree caps and rhinestones.

Bold, romantic, sensuous ornament that expresses the bounty of the female spirit in all its tenancity and capacity for Endurance...

Neck size is currently set at 16 inches with a 7 inch extension. The extension is finished with a lovely chandelier crystal that looks wonderful pulled to the front.
