Inspired by early American tomahawks, this small, handy axe has a head hand-forged from recycled carbon steel, originally a railroad clip. While hot, a hole was chopped through the thick bar with hammer and chisel, and the resulting eye spread to shape with a conical swage called a 'drift'...the other end of the bar was flattened into a blade, and carefully heat treated for a keen, durable edge. The head is 5 3/4" from end to end, with a cutting edge 2 1/2" long. My stamped touchmark, and a bit of decorative punchwork add a little interest to each side.

The haft is carved from select Ash wood, 16" from end to end. As in old tomahawks, it mounts from the top of the head, so can be removed and replaced easily if necessary for packing, use, it is very secure, the chopping motion tightening, rather than loosening, the head. The wood is finished in nontoxic walnut oil. A simple edge guard made of leather (not shown in photos) is also included.

This is a fully functional tool, with excellent cutting abilities for its size. It works well for chopping, splitting and carving, in both hard and soft woods, and will easily last a lifetime with proper care (keep it sharp for safety, clean and dry, and oil both head and handle occasionally.)

Sold sharp and ready to use; 18 or older only to purchase this item, please! Shipping (included in the purchase price) will be by US postal Service, first class with delivery confirmation. Thanks for looking!
