These mawatas are sure to become a beautiful accent to your next spinning project. Each set of mawatas are hand dyed using professional grade acid dyes, in a variety of unexpected and one of a kind patterns and color-ways.

Mawatas, commonly called silk hankies, are silk cocoons that have been stretched over a frame to dry. Each mawata is made up of many thin, individual mawatas.

To spin from a mawata, simply separate the very fine layers, and stretch them to form a thin roving. You can either spin this roving into a fine thread, or knit it as is. Mawatas are excellent for beginner spinners, and very easy and enjoyable to spin. You can also use mawatas in your felting projects, as they will felt when blended with other fibers.

While I strive to take photos that accurately depict the colors of my products, keep in mind that colors vary from display to display. If you have any questions about the particular hues and shades, please contact me before purchasing.

If you would like more information about spinning with silk, feel free to message me and I’ll send you the links to some of my favorite tutorials.

As always, this product is dyed by yours truly in my smoke free, kitty friendly home. I use professional grade acid dyes, and while the dye has been set, there may be some slight bleeding with the first wash.
