Imagine this handsome piece of pottery sitting on your fireplace mantle or on your study bookcase.

This stoneware vase was thrown on a pottery wheel, the piece was coated with Terra Sigilata, and burnished until it developed a shine, and it was bisque fired.

It was fired to approximately 1600 degrees F. When the raku kiln reached temperature, the hot piece of pottery was removed and horsehair were placed on it . The carbon from the singed horshair creates the squiggly lines.

Raku pieces are decorative only. These pieces are fragile and are not food safe, nor will they hold water. You can display these pieces as they are, or use dry materials (feathers, dried flowers, silk flowers, twigs, etc.) to make a lovely arrangement. Clear plastic inserts may be found at craft stores that will allow you to place cut flowers in the vase.

5" wide x 6" tall
total weight 2 lb. 2 oz.

Shipping cost given is for either UPS Groudn or USPS Priority. Contact me with other shipping requirements and I'll quote a cost for alternative shipping.

Frequently asked questions about muddywaterscc

I don't mind making custom items but, I want customers to be aware of time frames needed to make custom items, so they are not frustrated by how long it takes. It generally takes around 6-8 weeks from when I begin an item until it is finished. There are many steps and processes that go into making a piece of pottery.
Making the item takes a few days, between throwing on the wheel or hand building, to trimming, to assembly, to drying times.
Making enough items to fill the kiln takes at least four weeks.
Each item is glazed. The glaze for most of my work is brushed on, at least three coats. This takes several weeks.
Finally, the glaze kiln load is run to make the finish permanent.
Hand wash with warm soapy water for best results.
Items that are meant to be used every day, like coffee mugs, can be washed in the dishwasher as long as there is adequate space around them so they are not banging against other items in the dishwasher.
Raku items should be hand washed only. They should not be left outside or near windows where they will be exposed to the sun, as sun exposure may change their coloring or finish.
Pottery is breakable, so treat it gently and do not drop it, or it is likely to break.
My highest priority is ensuring that your item arrives safely. I wrap all items in bubble wrap, and place them in shipping peanuts.
If you would like an item wrapped in tissue paper over the bubble wrap, I am happy to do this if you ask me.
I'm also happy to add a personalized note from you if it is a gift. Just send me a convo letting me know what you want to say.
Please contact me. If we cannot resolve the problem, return the item for a full refund. Please ship back in the original packaging, or equivalent, to ensure safe return.
