This globe is comprised of coated paper gores over pasteboard, and features a time dial at the North Pole. The oceans are finished in a medium blue with the International Date Line, a few airline distances and surface decorated with many historic sailing ships. It has a bronzed cast metal full mount meridian in cradle with thumb screw adjuster on top of a pressed metal bronzed toned base. The map of this 1949 globe offers beautiful artistic details in addition to the political display. The globe features eight color vignettes of famous sailing ships, from Viking vessel to frigates. The cartouche is in the form of a shell, surrounded by a Mermaid and Neptune. Country capitals are idenfied by small stars.

Dating this revealted that it locates the Eniwetok Atoll where the atomic bomb tests were held! Shows Israel and Pakistan, Indochina no longer French, Korea is not divided, and Siam is located on the map! The African colonies still remain.

The Globe itself is in very good condition!! The colors are bright and vivid, the gores tightly held. The equator tape is intact and complete. There is minimal wear in the form of light scratching and small scuffs with only one 1" scratch in the North Pacific that removed the top layer of paper. The entire mounting is in very good condition, no cracks or corrosion to the meridian. No cracks or chips to the base.

As you can see by the pictures the entire globe is easily removed from its cradle and the position can be changed at will. This globe is a beauty and one that should not be passed at this price!

As always, ENJOY!!!
