Huia, such a beautiful bird with such a sad ending. Here a stunning female huia perches precariously on a branch. The Maori tradition of having black and white huia feathers was one that was limited to people of great mana or esteem / status. Colonists took the trend back to Victorian England where feathers became popular in women's hats. The birds are now extinct.

She has been carefully rendered using traditional watercolour techniques, then professionally printed using archival inks on Hahnemuhle William Turner 310gms cotton rag paper. This particular paper is just gorgeous, it has the appearance of water-colour paper and has been specifically created for longevity when used with pigmented inks.
