I adore the texture of this sedge stitch cowl! It is chunky, yet lightweight. It's perfect for bundling your toddler or child for venturing out in the cold since it won't slip off like a regular scarf would. You could easily make a few for your little girls or crochet them as gifts--working with two strands of yarn together makes these go very quickly!

This PDF pattern includes a detailed color photo tutorial along with the written instructions to help you create a Child's Sedge Stitch Cowl. There is also a one-page text-only version of the pattern for more convenient printing.

This pattern is appropriate for an advanced beginner.

One size fits most children (the models vary in age from 18 months to 6 years). The finished cowl measures about 5" high and 22" around.

--2 skeins worsted weight (category 4) yarn (the pink yarn pictured is Vanna's Choice Baby in Pink Poodle
--Size N-13 9mm crochet hook
--Tapestry or blunt needle for finishing

GAUGE: using 2 strands worsted weight yarn and a size N-13 crochet hook, about 3 ½ repeats and 8 rows of the sedge stitch pattern to a 4”x4” square
