This vintage 1920's dress is a rare and beautiful piece of Art Deco Fashion history!

Dress is actually constructed in two pieces. The foundation piece includes the long sleeves, a silk body, and a straight skirt. The overdress slides over the top and consists of a sleeveless bodice and the pleated panels of the skirt. The combination makes this dress incredibly comfortable to wear and adds movement to the detail on the skirt.

Outer fabric is a finely-woven, lightweight wool. It is soft to the touch an an incredible deep plum color bordering on eggplant. The dramatic color is accented by floral embroidery on the front bodice, back collar, sleeves, and overskirt panels.

Note the diminutive sailor-style collar in back and the Renissance-esque bell sleeves.

The seamstress not only chose the perfect fabric, but executed the design perfectly. Every detail is meticulously crafted from the tiny black piping around the edges and waist to the carefully concealed snap opening at the left side. Truly a museum-quality garment!

Very good condition. Vintage wool garments almost always have moth damage, but the only moth-related problems I could find with this dress were two small moth holes on the back bodice of the over-dress. Both are about the size of the head of a silk pin and virtually invisible. There is a bit of staining under each sleeve. However, the stains are actually a bit darker than the main color of the wool, making them almost unnoticeable. Also, someone reinforced part of the hem of the over-skirt panels with clear tape. This was probably to stabilize the stitches at one point and has not damaged the dress.

I have several other pictures available if you would like to see them.

Modeled on my modern US size 4 mannequin, it fits her well. Bust on dress measures 36", waist at dropped-waist seam is 34". This waist seam is 19.5" below the top of the shoulder and the skirt measures 28" from waist seam to bottom edge.

Fits like a small.
