The oak is the king of trees and important to different cultures such as the Celts and Druids. In fact the name for Druids is taken from the same root as the word oak:. druir. Although Druids worship all trees the oak was the tree they most revered. The Oak is also called the "King of the Forest" and may live for hundreds of years and take up to sixty years to bear acorns. Before shrines and temples, the Gods were worshipped under Oaks. Oaks being of great size attract lightning which gave it the reputation of being able to control the weather. This strengthened its association with the gods which ruled the storms.
