This is an actual tooth from a shark that lived some 15 million years ago in the area that is now Florida. The name of this shark is Carcharodon Auriculatus and it was the second largest shark that ever lived. The general consensus is that this giant predator grew up to the length of 55 feet. It was once thought that today's Great White shark was descended from giant predator but that is not so. This fossilized tooth measures 3 5/8 inches long and both sides of the enamel are a deep steel grey color. This fossil was found in a river in south Georgia. The second picture you see with a GIGANTIC Shark jaw and the young lady inside gives you an idea just how large this ancient shark grew to be. This is a very solid fossil and can be handled without fear of damaging it.

Diving for fossils has been my hobby for 35 years and it is not something for the faint of heart. You not only are diving in black water, meaning most of the time you can only see from 2 to 5 feet in front of you but you also have the alligators and water moccasins to contend with.
If you or someone you know may be looking for fossils please feel free to ask. I have a large collection of mostly Florida fossils that I have found over the years.
