Amazing vintage Paganne maxi dress from the early 1970s, with a fabulous eye-catching Art Deco print.

I gasped when I first saw it. (No joke.) The striking print is *wonderfully* placed! Asymmetric, with both sleeves using different parts of the print, and the fabric at the bottom left of the skirt is where the large deco sun medallion was used. (Love the rain drop motif falling down from the waist and onto the sun.)

The print on the back of the bodice was also cut and placed asymmetrically. On the front bodice one of the border patterns was cleverly placed to emulate a placket, and another part as a wide band encircling and setting off the waist.

This is what's called a large repeat, meaning the area of the fabric that contains the entire print is very large. This isn't used much if at all anymore because it's expensive and takes a lot of skill to design where the pieces go to comprise a garment.

Long sleeves, deep slit on the left side, wide fly-back collar (another great use of the print on it). It's one gorgeous dress!
