These old bookends are made out of plaster and painted with a heavy, thick paint. They have just a very slight sheen to them. There originally were antique gold accents scattered on the wings, hair and dolphin and some still remain. There are also spots that I'm not really sure if its supposed to be gold or antiquing or if it is accumulated dust from over the years and I'll leave that up to you to decide. There are chips of paint loss scattered overall. The red background makes a striking backdrop for the creamy off- white of Putti riding on the dolphin. I did learn that there is not much difference in looks between a Putti and a Cherub but cherubs are used in a religious settings and Putti are used in a more secular setting.

The bookends measure 6 1/8 in. high, 4 3/4 in. wide, and 3 in. deep. I noticed that there is one larger spot of paint loss on the gold edging that has been covered to hide the white plaster underneath. I didn't find any major cracks and the wear shows mainly in the chipped paint finish. I didn't see any areas that were nicked that drastically change the shape. There is green felt paper on the bottom that is mostly intact but does have some edge wear and loose corners. The bookends are charming and would be perfect in a shabby chic or cottage setting as well as in your vintage home collection.

I do combine shipping if more than one item is purchased. I don't have a set rate and figure the cost by actual weight of package to your location plus a small handling charge. The shipping/handling cost listed is calculated at the highest amt. from NY to CA. If you live closer to the east coast-it will be less and I can either send a revised invoice or refund the difference. OR send me your zipcode for an exact shipping quote.

New York residents must add 8% tax on purchase price.
