This hamsa is handmade from clay, fired in a kiln at 1000ºC (1800°F). In the final stage the ceramic item is hand painted using underglazes, coated with the transparent (clear) ceramic glaze, and passed through a second firing cycle, at the same temperatures, in order to obtain the final result.

The hamsa is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout the Middle East Middle and North Africa, and commonly used in jewellery and wall hangings. Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many societies throughout history, the hamsa provides superstitious defense against the evil eye.
