First Edition - not marked First Edition, however, it was the only edition of this book~

Here is told, the legend of Sir Lancelot of the Lake, from the early days of his mysterious childhood, to his life and quests at the court of King Arthur as the greatest knight of the Round Table, and to the tragic consequences of his love for Queen Guinevere....considered at it's writing and thereafter to be a milestone in children's literature, and also amongst the works of its author, Roger Lancelyn Green, his 50th book!

Roger Lancelyn Green was a British biographer and children's writer. He was an Oxford academic who formed part of the Inklings literary discussion group along with C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien...born in Norwich, England in 1918 and died in 1987 where he lived in a manor house in Cheshire which his ancestors had owned for more than 900 years~~ He studied under C.S. Lewis and remained close to Lewis until his death in 1963 and had even taken a holiday with C.S. Lewis and his wife, Joy, just prior to her death in 1960. When C.S. Lewis started writing the Narnia books in the 1940's it was Roger who suggested he call them The Chronicles of Narnia~~

The Illustrators of this book were the highly renowned twin sisters Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone~~Their art work is now known around the world~They always worked together on the illustrations until Janet died in 1979~they were the daughters of the successful British portraitist and costume designer Doris Zinkeisen and her husband, Capttain Grahame Johnsone. They attended the St. Martins School of Art in London~Anne lived until 1998~
Their art is sought after today by collectors~
