A RARE TIBETAN ANTIQUE LAMASERY CABINET
Lhoka (Shannan) Prefecture (Tibet), 19th Century
Mortise-tenon construction with beveled panels inserted into a tongue-and-groove framework, hand-painted cabinet. Upper panel, with designs derived from earlier period Chinese silk textiles and ceramic patterns, depicts the Rooster, "attachment-desire"" painted with pigments from mineral extraction. This rare cabinet is of important historical and cultural significance.
Provenance: Lhoka (Shannan) Prefecture (Tibet). Sale of this piece approved by the Dalai Lama.
Very good condition.
35 x 42 x 15 inches (88.9 x 106.7 x 38.1 cm).
