Ruffled arms and long tentacles wave in a dance as the sea nettle navigates the ocean depths, its large bell pulsating to propel itself along. A graceful underwater ballerina, but this particular jellyfish makes an exception and is perfect for display in your dry home. Hand stitched in layers of silk and cotton jersey that have been naturally dyed, this sea nettle has a wonderful warm glow and shimmer. This jellyfish is completely hand stitched and one of a kind.

The genus name of sea nettle jellies, Chrysaora, comes from Greek mythology. Chrysaor was the son of Poseidon and Medusa, and his name translates as ‘golden falchion’. A falchion was a curved fighting sword able to cut through armor, a reference to the stinging ability of these jellies. However, the pain from the sting of a west coast sea nettle is similar in intensity to that of a bee sting and does not have serious effects for most people.

The bell measures about 5" across and this jellyfish is about 18" long. Locally sourced wool stuffing used in part of the body. There is a loop of clear fishing line through the top for hanging, but this can also be easily removed if you would prefer to display it on a shelf.

This piece is made and stored in a smoke and pet free home.
