100% of the sale of charms & Monarch Butterfly Jewelry goes to the rearing and release of local butterfly species. In addition Butterflies Kits are being donated by athenianaire to local family centers so Children can observe the natural cycle of butterflies & Moths then Release them into the wild while planting specific host plants also germinated by athenianaire (Plants such as Lupine for the Karner Blue Butterfly that is endangered and Milkweed for the Monarch Butterfly)

In the Fall of 2011 Athenianaire began the task of rearing local North American Moths for release. Currently 4 moth species have been raised and released into the New England area, including Luna and Cercropia Moths and in the spring of 2012 our first caterpillars were born. NONE of the Moths or butterflies Raised by athenianaire are used in her work, ALL are released into the wild. Learn more about this project on Athenianaire's FB Page: www.facebook.com/athenianaire

Art for Conservation, I use real butterflywings and butterflies to create these pieces. Please read below on how and why I obtain the preserved butterflies and how I try to help conservation.
The Butterflies used to create these pieces are bred on farms all over the globe including in the countries of southeast Asia, the south pacific, south and Central America. The rearing of these specimens for education, art, inspiration, and export help fund organizations dedicated to protecting the unique environments of the world. The specimens are exported in a preserved manner to generate some of the financial resources required to maintain conserved land.
Not all of the butterflies bred on these farms are sold as specimens many are released into the wild to mate and maintain healthy species populations.
