These beautiful Trade Beads are called "Vulcanic" because they were made from vulcanized rubber. At one time early disc music records were made from vulcanized rubber (this was in the 1800's). This is why these are referred to as Phono Record Disc beads. These heishi are hard, like a record album.

These are thin heishi beads, perfect for pairing with old or newer beads. They are very uniform in size, about **15mm** across. The hole measures 1mm. You will receive 4 INCHES of these heishi beads.

These beads are from the mid 1900s. I have not cleaned them and will leave this up to the new owner.

Trade beads are true to their name. They were an important part of currency used in trade between Africans and Europeans. The Europeans loaded their ships with beads and "trinkets", among them these beads, and traded them in Africa for gold, coffee and natural resources.

Thanks for shopping with me!
