Hand dyed is the only way to achieve this effect. If you look straight into the yarn set, at right angles to the axis of the yarn, you see six luscious colors from pale pinkish purple to rich lilac dappled with tints and shades of the other skeins in the set. However, if you look along the surface of the yarn, at a slight angle to the axis, you see what appears to be a transparent overlay in hot pink that shimmers as the yarn moves. This is achieved by using a fluorescent component that converts part of the ultraviolet section of the spectrum into the visible section that humans can detect. (Fluorescence should not be confused with the "phosphorescence", which causes objects to glow after the light source is removed. This yarn does not glow in the dark.)

I have attempted to capture the glow in the second photo. The yarn shimmer is not garish but, rather, has a subtle glimmer like a sheer reflective layer if the yarn is viewed in daylight.

Of all my yarns, this is the set I would take if I could only choose one. Not just because of the colors but because of the interest during knitting. With many colors, I am bored by the end of the project. With this color, I am sad when the knitting is over because the color shift has been so engaging, so lovely.

Your gradated set in six skeins will be dyed to order for you in ColorShift Merino wool. This is a 2/8 fingering weight (jumper weight) yarn that knits up at about 8 st/in on US 1-2 needles. Milled exclusively for ColorShift from 23.5 micron superwash Merino, it is lustrous, smooth, soft, bouncy, elastic, drapes nicely, can be enjoyed next to the skin, resists pilling and shrinking, blocks easily and retains its shape. It can be doubled for a DK weight and color blending by changing only one strand at a time.

Each skein is 160 yards/146 meters. The total yardage of the set is 960 yards/877 meters.
