London Blue Topaz Necklace on Multi-Strand Delicate Gold Filled Chain

I threaded a lovely, unblemished London Blue Topaz trillian-cut gemstone onto extra fine gauge 14k gold filled wire and set it in the center of three strands of ultra-delicate flat link (approximately 1.4 x 1 mm) 14k gold filled chain. The chain is finished with a simple, 14k gold filled lobster claw clasp set between two petite 14k gold filled accent beads.

This is a beautiful yet understated necklace that's versatile enough for everyday wear.

Perfect for a December birthday!

The total length of this necklace is approximately 18 inches.

More London Blue topaz from Gewgaws & Gimcracks:

I use the highest quality filled gold for Gewgaws & Gimcracks jewelry. It has a higher gold content than alternatives like plated gold and vermeil.

Gold plating uses an electrostatic process to deposit a thin layer of gold over base metal like brass or copper. Because the gold layer is so thin, it is easily scratched and tends to tarnish quickly, so I don't recommend it for everyday wear (especially if you have metal allergies or sensitivities).

Gold vermeil is a more expensive version of gold plating; it involves a thin layer of gold over sterling silver. As with plated gold, vermeil is easily scratched and abraded, and tends to tarnish with regular wear.

Filled gold (also called ‘gold overlay’ or ‘rolled gold plated’) involves multiple layers of gold that are bonded mechanically to a base metal. It is stronger and more tarnish resistant than vermeil or plated gold. If you don't want to pay for solid gold, gold filled jewelry is the best alternative for pieces you wear often.

London Blue topaz has a steely, grayish, and deep blue color. This is the darkest blue topaz variety available in jewelry. It is a medium to dark grayish blue, sometimes described as steely or inky.

It it is believed to provide calmness, balance emotions, reduce nervous fatigue, exhaustion and stress, bring leadership abilities, and to enhance psychic knowledge, spiritual growth, and insight.

Because the composition of London Blue topaz repels water but attracts oils, London Blue topaz needs regular cleaning to show off its brilliance and luster. London Blue topaz jewelry should not be cleaned by ultrasonic methods, which can crack the gemstones. Avoid harsh and abrasive cleansing agents like alcohol, acetone and ammonia as they can damage the surface of London Blue topaz.

Blue topaz can be found in both lighter and darker tones, usually known as Sky Blue, Swiss Blue, and London Blue. As in the case of other blue gems, the more saturated blues tend to have a higher value. In topaz it is the London Blue that usually regarded as the most valuable.
