Hand embroidered doily with hungarian Kalocsa style motif. Traditional pattern.

As I learnt from my grandma, the quality of an embroidery is acceptable only if the back side is almost looks like than the front. Means especially no knots at all. To make you able to check it as well you can always find pictures of the back of my works here.

Did you know?
The art of Kalocsa Embroidery was born in the second half of the 19th century. The embroidered motifs were simple, inspired from nature. The needlework was originally white, having a simple pattern, made up by holes. At the end of the 19th century, the art of Kalocsa embroidery went through creative innovations. The holes of the pattern designs were filled but there were also many artists who liked to combine the two needlework styles.
The earliest colored embroideries date from the years 1904-1905. Since the colors of yarns were fading the earliest colored embroidery work survived with faded colors.
The color of the traditional costumes, dresses changed with the person's age who was wearing that. The most colorful Hungarian Embroidery was worn by the bride. The elder women’s dresses were less colorful; the tonality of the colors was dark. The combination of blue-violet-green gives an atmosphere of sorrow. This is the so-called "szomorupamukos" Kalocsa style embroidery.
Designed at first mainly for women wear, but the Kalocsa embroidery has found usage also in house decor as tablecloths, bedspreads and so on.
